Watch the video

Simple  Past

It is used to talk about events that finished and happened in a definite time in the past.

She worked in town then she took the bus. When she arrived at home she had a shower and then she went to bed. She was tired.

Past Continuous

It is used to talk about  events that were happening at a right time in the  past . You can find  it with as/while and it usually refers to an action in progress : you do not know when it started and when it finished.

While I was working in town I met my friend Paul.

At 3 o’clock yesterday I was  running in the park

Past  Perfect

It is used to talk about an event that happened before another event in the past: it  is important to say that it happened before and that it influenced the next  event.
