Anne Frank

My dear students,

I would like you to read some pages from the  famous Diary  written by a young teenager- Anne Frank. If you have the time, just check online and listen to her voice, but I know that some of you will prefer to read it.

I read it when I was your age and  I discovered the  hopes of a person who wanted to live and  enjoy life. She did not  survive the bad experience in the  concentration camps but she is still with us, thanks to her diary.

Here you can find an interesting document about the voice of this  girl who is still talking to us  in the  XXI century:

Here you can find some texts in English taken from her Diary : read them and if you have the time try to tell me about your experience in reading them. Post your ideas  or write to me by  explaining why we must  read  Anne’s book.  What kind of message does she have for us today?

Remembering the Past 27 January 1945

Watch this video with an interview with a  survivor from  the Holocaust. Write down some notes about it and watch it a second time if you have not understood- check the subtitles.

Be ready to give some information about what you have learnt about  this woman in class.

Listen to this podcast and read the  text of the transcript  if you find some difficulties

https://www.ushmm.org/information/visit-the-museum/programs-activities/first-person-program/first-person-podcast/josiane-traum-hiding-in-a-convent-in-brugge

Now search online  about   Italy  and the  Holocaust : what did you learn about  the people who were sent to  concentration camps? Were they many or fewer compared to  countries like  Poland and Germany?

You can use this link  https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/

Report the information to  your  friends in class.

Shakespeare’s work (1) : Tragedies

This  year we are going to see a play presenting the  life of  W. Shakespeare: ” A cup of  tea with  Shakespeare”.  We are going to the theatre in our town and  learn together about the man who  wrote  so many  plays which everybody loves now. You may have read about his  works and his  life.  I would like you  to search online and find some information about this  English  dramatist.

Meanwhile watch these interesting videos dealing with some plays: have you ever been to the  theatre and seen any ?

Hamlet – the lonely Prince of  Denmark

The  love story of Romeo and Juliet

A  Story of  Ambition- Macbeth

Which play is the one you would like to go to see at the theatre?

Watching videos to learn more about English tenses : the Present Perfect

Tenses used to talk about events that have happened

We use the  Simple Past when events  happened in a specific time : WHEN?

We have studied the simple past and we have learnt about it : it tells us about events that happened in the past

Jack   married  Susan  in 2009

Marion  left the book on the  table  yesterday

Now read this sentence : it tells us about events  that have  happened but we  do not  say when  they happened

Juliet and Marion have just married

I have lost my key : how can I enter my house?

When we do not  focus on when an event occurred we use  the  Present Perfect

How to build  sentences using the Present Perfect

Subject+ have/has + past participle

Subject + have/has + not + past participle

……  have/has + subject + past  participle?

Now  watch these videos and focus on the  key words we use  in English  when  we have the  Present  Perfect :

Can you make a list of the main  keywords ?
