The Victorian  age was marked by many changes and it is important to  learn about the origins of the first stamp which is linked to the social, technological changes which took place during the long reign of Queen Victoria.

Watch the video and be ready to refer about it. What do you know about the mail system in Italy? When did it develop? Why do you think  new means of transport and the stamps are so important in the history of Britain?

Anne Frank

My dear students,

I would like you to read some pages from the  famous Diary  written by a young teenager- Anne Frank. If you have the time, just check online and listen to her voice, but I know that some of you will prefer to read it.

I read it when I was your age and  I discovered the  hopes of a person who wanted to live and  enjoy life. She did not  survive the bad experience in the  concentration camps but she is still with us, thanks to her diary.

Here you can find an interesting document about the voice of this  girl who is still talking to us  in the  XXI century:

Here you can find some texts in English taken from her Diary : read them and if you have the time try to tell me about your experience in reading them. Post your ideas  or write to me by  explaining why we must  read  Anne’s book.  What kind of message does she have for us today?

9/11

What do you know about  September  11th? You were not born and maybe you do not know much about this event which changed the history of the world.

Every year people in the USA and all over the world remember what happened on this day. One of the main landmarks of New York- the  Twin Towers- were destroyed and  thousands of people died in a terrorist  attack on 11th September  2001.

Now watch and listen to this poem by the poet  Billy  Collins : it is about those who died in this  sad event. Every year their names are repeated and remembered and the place is now  a Memorial where people from all over  the world  go to when they are in New York.

Since that day the world has changed and we have become  afraid of  people we do not know but we will never forget
